Strength Rhythms

Everything is Connected

Intentional practices that help you steward your body and bring you into understanding of your finite abilities as a human.

We grow in our love for God by living within our limits and by stewarding our physical capacity.

Exercise

We were made to move and work our bodies by being active movers and stewards of our physical realities. When we exercise we’re building into our health but also loving God who gave us these unique bodies.

Sleep

When English pastor, Sir. Martin Loyd Jones, would first sit down with a person for pastoral counselling, the first thing he would ask them is how they’re sleeping. He rightly believed that it’s hard to care for the soul, when the mind and body are not sleeping. How will you sleep well? Do you need more sleep? New pillow? Sound machines?

Sabbath Rest

While we were made to work in God’s presence, we were also made to rest in God’s work and with him, enjoying his work through us and trusting him to continue to provide and care for things while we rest. Sabbaths confront our desire to gain identity through doing, to gain security through control, to attain significance from performance. Not only do the Scriptures speak of weekly Sabbath but also of quarterly and annual moments of rest, too.

Fasting&Feasting

Our society has rhythms of diets and binges; the Scriptures teach of fasting and feasting. They’re quite different. We fast to abstain from something we desire and depend on to grow in our awareness of our need for God and his provision. We also feast to celebrate the goodness of God.
