Soul Rhythms

What is the Soul?

Intentional practices that help you submit your entire self to God and enjoy the realities of God’s work, presence, and grace tangibly. Essentially, it’s all the stuff that makes you you…

Recreating

Activities that get your body moving, that reminds you of the joy of having a life to live. This could be hiking, surfing, cycling, snorkeling, paddle boarding, running, skiing etc. As you do these things, be aware of God’s goodness to you, why you enjoy these things, what you’re seeing and actively “play with God”. A resource that’s helpful to notice the presence of God in life’s little pleasures is the book, “Every Moment Holy” produced by the Rabbit Room. They also sell beautiful prints you can use.

Coffee

Make yourself a good cup of coffee or go to a coffee shop you enjoy. Sit and simply enjoy the flavor, the tastes, and quiet of the moment with God. Delight in the presence of God with you.

Hobbies

These are the things we enjoy for the sake of enjoying and doing them. Hobbies are gifts where we taste the garden of Eden and the garden city to come, where God dwelt with humanity. This could be sowing, baking, gardening, wood working, etc.

Enjoying God in His Creation

Similar to recreating, this practice involves putting yourself in creation and simply being with God and enjoying what he’s made. Sitting on a bench in a park, walking along the wet sand of the ocean atop a mountain.

Personal Worship Time

This practice can help you adore and praise God as an individual. Using worship music that really connects with you, or sitting with your own instrument take time to worship God through music.

Enjoying Art

Often, one of the ways for us to celebrate the presence and grace of God is through the creative work of His creation through film, food, music, and other creative forces within the world.
